 THINKING POSITIVE

As we begin the Islamic New Year of 1430 A.H. and the Gregorian Calendar of 2009, it is important to define the Islamic qualities of our lifestyle. If we do not fine the characteristics expected by Allaah - then we need to make every effort to ensure that our lifestyle is in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quraan and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. While there may be a lot of chaos and turmoil in the world, we as Muslims need to stick to the straight path and in the remembrance of Allaah, praising God for all the bounties and favors bestowed upon us. The Prophet S.A.W. reminded us to thank Allaah under all conditions.

We need to think positive. If we think the glass is half full, we are on the right track. Mayo Clinic research shows that people with a positive outlook typically live 19 percent longer than people who see the glass as half empty. Although it’s questionable if this can be attributed to optimists being more likely to seek medical help when they’re ill or their immune systems being stronger as a result of their sunny outlook, the result is that they live longer. Optimists are also less likely to suffer depression and helplessness than their pessimist counterparts. The beginning of a New Year is crucial in order to plan for the entire year. This is the time when most people should sketch a graph for the whole year. To materialize the things thought of is somewhat difficult but as believers in Allaah, we need to pray, think positive and make every effort to accomplish our goals in life as seen in the examples by the Prophets of God (Peace be Upon Them).
